Synopsis
On March 27, 2017, at 3 a.m., Berlin witnesses one of its most audacious crimes: the theft of the world’s largest gold coin. While police reconstruct the events and arrest four suspects from the Remmo clan, the case becomes a test for the entire justice system – the stolen gold remains missing, suspects remain silent, and the clan hires eight celebrity lawyers to defend them. What unfolds is an intense struggle between prosecutor Katrin Faust and a family deeply embedded in the city’s criminal landscape, whose influence has grown since the 1990s and whose image is fueled by gangsta rap and film.
CLANGOLD tells the story of the gold coin robbery through the eyes of investigators, revealing the challenges of prosecuting organized crime where family loyalty overrides all else. The series follows the tense journey from the heist to the courtroom verdict, blending investigative drama with the stylized energy of a classic heist movie and pop-cultural flair. It captures not only the relentless pursuit for justice, but also the wider social debate on “clan crime” and its roots in Berlin’s multicultural society.
